moments

As I'm sitting here listening to Notorious BIG aka Biggie Smalls, I thought I would flick through the eyeCONTACT blog and have myself a little nosey at what's on his blog. One in particular caught my eye and got me reading the whole thread. Lol i say to myself as Im reading it, Im curious to see what this book is about. I like the way he comments and say's how Haruhiko Sameshima's work is both fascinating and frustrating, two words that would get me both confused and excited about viewing his book. Its like you know that moment when theres like only one piece of chocolate left in the box, and you try to savour that taste. I guess buying the book, I'll have that taste in my mouth for years to come :D
All for the fun

Discussions with Pat, Been, Mila and Prune

Media and Arts: how well does the Magazine's comunicate the industry.

M: I like to look at the pictures more than reading

Pr: I guess its good coz you can see about lots of different galleries, and it guess its good to know whats in and whats contemporary.

M: Yeah, I'm not really to sure.

Pr: I mean some of them are really boring and you can get bored really easily from reading them.
Actually i like the stuff thats more about pop culture, to do with music, it interests me more about that than art, coz you get to read about album and then learn about the art aspects around alot of different things. Art magazines are more about sculpture and painting, it would be more cooler if they were all together, you have to go buy a Photography magazine inorder to view Photo.

M: Photo and technology is upgrading everyday

Pr: Paul McNamara is in this magazine.

B: what do you think about art magazines, do they help you?

Pr: i read books coz theres lots of information, and you can get books that are about one artist, and i gues that is good that you can find books like that.

P: theres too many adverts in the magazines.

Pr: Magazines arent really treated like books, it gets wrecked easier.

B: My friend and I confessed about reading Fashion magazines, coz of the visual and its more interesting to look at

Pr: Fashion magazines are lots more better to look at. Art Magazines are soo boring.

B: Musicians have better interviews.
FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY IS SO MUCH BETTER TO LOOK AT!
sick of looking at empty houses and trees

Pr: So much more interesting! OMG YES!
in a fashion shoot
I want really good ppl, and clothes and make up and i want everything

B:theres a story behind Fashion Photography.

P: I dont enjoy reading about art that much, i think its quite over analaysed and its about neutraility and ppl say so much about that i becomes meaningless. theres sooo many ways to read it,

B: Thats the point isnt it,

P: writers writing about art, and knowing how ppl have made, its the discussion about the work is very dry. there are exceptions, like the collage book, goes thru a comprehensive history, its still academic

Pr: *FART*

Pr: Art is snobbery

B: interesting polarity, its like the high art and the water color stuff, its like it sells way more.

Pr: its coz ppl buy the nannery magazines coz its more popular

P: its like youd never go to those exhibition, youd' never know who the artists were.
I like Artworld, its reasonable

Pr: I like the Artworld magazines, i like the ones that have more of a variety

B: I like centrefolds.

P: im going to make the Rayner Brothers a pullout centrefold.

B: Nice bottom.

the discussion turns away from discussing magazines and seems to go to nudity and what not.

M: I cant type as fast as ppl's mouths are going off
it seems to me like theres a never ending discussion about how Magazines function as a communication source within the art industry. I think we'r all going to be like Skynet and the place will be over run by Skynet, so ppl, you are you own worse enemy. technology evolves and so do we. this is John Connor signing off.

Lecture Notes 2 :D

Guest Curator: Peter Ireland

in the discussion of Curatatorial Process.

when confronting something curating, we'r told not to be frightened by it, in away its like our own art practice, all this stuff, theres us our ideas, and eventually it turns into something that ppl will like and will want to buy it and its like curating, its parallel, curatorial will feed into our art practice and will do it for the fun :D....

the question is what is the point of this show/exhibition? and who is this show for?
It seems all the details (statement, titles) all relate back to the show, to begin you need an idea for the show.

When artists put a show together they assume the show is for themselves, but thinking realistically the show is for :Public - to focus on someone quite ordinary, you want to speak to them and taking into account you want them to go away with the feeling of engagement and the wanting to come back and view the show.

its about what you know and what you dont know, one of the problems if you think the show is only for you, the show will only be about what you know. IF your committed to education, then the show becomes more about learning, the lust for learning what you dont know, its more about sinking into habbits, its about the amazing pool of what you dont know, it should tantalize the tastebuds.

For your mates. not for the good. its becomes a stumbling block.

the art Professionals.
Modernism: Originality and Authenticity.
Post Modernism questions both the originality and authenticity of the work.
Thus, the originality becomes the fake.

Art that can be about alot of things and art that can be about other art. Alot of the art that survives 20% of its period is the art that is about art.

Any idea that is well thought through is going to please everybody.

the reason why artist write wanky art statements is coz they think that they are inadequate and think they have to impress anyone. Being an artist means you make good art, and everything else will follow. You make coping mechanisism to writing art statements.

Studio Dissertation Class 302

Introduction to Studio Dissertation with the importance of research :D
Tutor: Matt Couper
Class: Gangsters Paradise
Lesson: 1

It seems to only just be the tip of the iceberg!!! Prune is saying its still heaps. But my thoughts are lots of fun things. Matt is telling us about all of the galleries, telling us who they exhibit and what kinda galleries they are. He was just telling us that Brit Bunkley is going to exhibit with Tom Turner at the City Art Rooms up in Auckland.
http://www.cityartrooms.co.nz/CAR/ExhibitionDetails/153/Group-Show/Don-t-Worry-It-s-Only-Money.aspx
Well actually the exhibition is on currently.

Aaron has some very interesting questions. Made more sense to me tbh, I had often wondered about how one would make relations with art dealers/gallerists (?).

James Wallace Trust Gallery. Brian told Prune that we should enter this... Said that a student has won the James Wallace Arts Award. I think we should enter this :D Note to self. Must get an Application to fill out and send then figure out what to do from there.

Mary Newton Gallery. Exhibits tutors of Prune and mines, Brit Bunkley and Andrea Du Chatineeri (IM sorry i cant spell your last name!) I will come back an correct it.

hmmmm I wonder what is for lunch.

I never knew that there were soooo many dealer galleries around. I think we'r only up to the Ws in the alphabet.

Dealer Galleries, Artist run spaces just something to think about. to be more self motivated in getting out. Just looking at Peter Peryer's Blog, he has a few links on his page. Oh "BEST of 3" is another linked blog, shes into bloggin and is into the gadgetry. Courtney Johnson is she.

Plenty of stuff out there to keep us interested.
Read blogs, read stuff
:D

WRITE STUFF!!!

Till next time
Prune and Mila Flurofood :D

Next week we should hopefully have a curator come in to talk to us :D
